Mountain Biking On More Than 400 Miles of Trails
One of the top 5 mountain biking destinations in North America.
Park City has an extraordinary trail system developed by the Mountain Trails Foundation, the town’s three ski resorts, government officials, and private landowners. And having more than 400 miles of single track isn’t just about quantity, it is about quality. Park City has two trails designated by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) as “Epic Rides.” It is the only town in North America with two such distinctions. The first designated IMBA Epic is known as the Mid-Mountain Trail, which starts at Deer Valley and travels more than 25 miles all the way over to Canyons on some of the most spectacular single track you will ever ride. The ride averages about 8,000 feet of elevation the whole way, with no more than a couple hundred of feet of altitude change on either side of that number. And, to make it even more special, once you get over to Canyons and head downhill, the trail drops you off right at Hyatt Escala Lodge.
For bike rentals see 19 Sports ((435) 649-1901), Jan’s Mountain Outfitters ((435) 649-4949), Cole Sport ((435) 649-4800), or White Pine Touring ((435) 649-8710). White Pine Touring also leads guided rides ranging from a historic tour of Park City to a three-hour tour of the mountains around town, to an all day excursion.
While Park City might be more famous for it’s mountain biking, the road biking around town is equally spectacular. From scenic rides around Park City to the rural routes in the Kamas Valley, to the gut busting climbs of Little Cottonwood Canyon, the road biking in Park City can provide everything the Tour de France has to offer, except maybe the crepes. For bike rentals see 19 Sports, Jans’s Mountain Outfitters, and Cole Sport.
